Tuesday, September 21, 2010 - 13:31News: ARROJO @ NY Fashion Week –– Custo Barcelona
The flamboyant design team at Custo Barcelona always puts on a dynamic show and this season was no different. Colorful prints layered on top of colorful prints were decked out with rainbow feathers and fluttering sleeves, creating a fantasy-inspired Spanish wardrobe.
Dennis Lanni, who was also supported by the ARROJO team on the Michael Angel show worked with the designers on a rock and roll bohemian look, and employed some off the cuff styling techniques to make it work.
“We used a mixture of water and iodized table salt and sprayed the roots with that to build volume,” says Dennis. “Then we used a big fat curling iron and rolled the length of the hair up. Next we wrapped it around tissue paper to set. We did this instead of curlers because it gives a little more bend to the hair. After makeup was done, the tissue paper came out and we teased the top of the hair to give it a strong presence, a sort of fuzzy look with natural, slept-on looking flyaways. The African American models wore chopped up bob wigs, to give the same feel as the models with longer hair.”

Friday, July 9, 2010 - 16:35News: New Editorial - Reverb
Running against the grain of the flashy fashion of the late nineteen-eighties, Reverb, a new editorial collection by ARROJO stylists, Siobhan Benson and Ellie Coates, takes inspiration from Shoegazing, a subgenre of alternative rock music that emerged in London, circa nineteen-ninety.
Pops of color; echoes of decay; grainy imagery; dark and moody and haunting; angst filled disenchantment with society. All are things associated with the Shoegazing sound. Yet the protagonists are also known as non-confrontational, complex, and refreshingly experimental.
A sense Siobhan and Ellie were quick to display. Color melting and painting show ultimate creativity, producing vivid, contemporary color that pushes the boundaries of the status quo; but is still able to light up the feeling of that time.
The hair extensions and styling are equally avant-garde. Tailor-made hair wefts create a wispy and choppy look for one model; rows of extensions create a sculptured hair piece and elongated ponytail for another.
Appropriately set in King Killer Music Studio, Brooklyn, Reverb, by using high contrast colors and shapes, and a beautiful, stripped down aesthetic, reflects the distorted, introspective style that gave grunge its gritty creative edge.

Sunday, December 6, 2009 - 14:48News: SHOW Report – Fashion Installation at the V&A
The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), London, is the world’s largest museum of decorative arts and design. Every fourth Friday of the month, the V&A invites a design artist to create an installation in the name of fashion or music or art. With Petra Storrs installation, all three came together. Siobhan Benson, ARROJO studio stylist, was part of a team that created a futuristic, physically moving background, high fashion, art and design.
The installation – and this show video – captures Petra Storrs vision with choreography set to dark and powerful instrumental music in the grand hall of the Raphael Gallery.
Siobhan’s hair design is clean and marvelously modern, like a vision of the future. Half the models are braided from the center back, with sides and back meeting to create a braid that is elegantly lifted to form two circles at the crown of the head. Each other model shows high ponytails, box braided or wrapped, to elongate the tail for dramatic and stylistic effect.
A looking glass for the next generation of music and fashion, art and design – and a stunning and beautiful show.
